‘High Potential’ Season 2 Sets September Return on Disney+ UK With Steve Howey Joining the Cast

by Dave Elliott

Disney+ has confirmed that the critically acclaimed crime dramedy High Potential will be back this September for its second season in the UK and Ireland. Even better news for fans is that episodes will stream just one day after they air on ABC in the USA, so British viewers won’t be left waiting while the mysteries unfold across the pond.

The series, based on the wildly successful French hit Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI), proved a breakout when it debuted, blending sharp mysteries with quirky humour and a heroine who solves crimes while juggling single motherhood.

At the heart of the show is Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Morgan, the brilliant, chaotic, coffee-fuelled consultant with a brain wired for puzzles and zero tolerance for authority. Stuck alongside her is Daniel Sunjata (Graceland) as Detective Karadec, a by-the-book cop who never quite knows whether Morgan is his best ally or his biggest headache. Their odd-couple energy is the spark that keeps the series ticking.

Season 2 reunites fans with Javicia Leslie (Batwoman) as Daphne, Deniz Akdeniz (The Flight Attendant) as Lev “Oz” Ozdil, Amirah J (Candy Cane Lane) as Ava, Matthew Lamb (Moonhaven) as Elliot, and Judy Reyes (Scrubs) as Selena. But the big shake-up this year is the arrival of Steve Howey (Shameless USA) as Captain Jesse Wagner, the precinct’s brand-new boss.

Wagner is no ordinary captain who hides behind a desk. He is a savvy political operator who knows how to flash a million-dollar smile at a fundraiser while rocking an expensive suit with effortless charm. He is also a disruptor who, like Morgan, is not afraid to think outside the box, sometimes to the annoyance of his team. And he has a particular knack for inserting himself right into the middle of the action, whether anyone actually wants him there or not. His chemistry with Olson’s Morgan promises plenty of sparks, both cooperative and combustible.

Behind the curtain, the series is produced by 20th Television. Executive producers include Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles, showrunner Todd Harthan, Marc Halsey, and Olson herself. That mix of creative voices ensures the series retains its blend of wit, heart, and clever whodunnits.

For those unfamiliar with its origins, HPI is a phenomenon in France, drawing huge viewing figures and becoming one of the most-watched dramas on French television in years. Disney clearly saw the potential, bringing the format stateside and adding Olson’s comedic sharpness to make it sing for English-speaking audiences.

So if you like your mysteries delivered with a side of chaos, humour, and a heroine who can crack a case while also wrangling kids and colleagues, High Potential is the kind of show that scratches both the crime-drama and comedy itches in one hit.

High Potential’ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 17th September 2025 on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, following its Tuesday night debut on ABC in the USA.

Like a lot of shows, it’s been moved in the US schedules until March because of the Winter Olympics. So probably 4th March as it’s back on the 3rd March in the USA.
