ITV has unveiled an impressive cast for its upcoming six-part series ‘The Dark‘, based on GR Halliday’s debut novel From the Shadows. Leading the show will be Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, Sugar) as Scottish Detective Monica Kennedy, alongside Mark Rowley (Trigger Point, Karen Pirie) as Detective Connor Crawford.
They are joined by Emun Elliott (The Gold, Sexy Beast), playing local Barclay Adams, and Helen Baxendale (Noughts + Crosses, Cuckoo) as Bethany, parents scarred by their past and far from pleased when Detective Monica reappears at their door with a case linked to their missing son.
The wider cast includes Rona Morrison (Our Ladies, Macbeth), Cal MacAninch (Trigger Point, Downton Abbey), Stella Gonet (The Salisbury Poisonings, Breeders), Phil McKee (The Rig, Professor T), Tunji Kasim (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Nancy Drew) and Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: a Search for Truth, 28 Weeks Later).
‘The Dark’ begins shooting this week in and around Glasgow. The series has been adapted by Matt Hartley and is produced by Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios.

The story
When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, Detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will shake the heart of a rural community.
As paranoia rises, secrets come to light and suspicions spread, locals start to realise that a serial killer is hiding among them. Kennedy’s experience of facing humanity’s darkest corners pulls her into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a cunning murderer. Only she can stop the killer before more lives are taken, but her own past resurfaces and threatens her judgement. Could her greatest risk be herself and her family?

‘The Dark’ is executive produced by Poison Pen’s Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf and Fern McCauley, alongside Matt Hartley. Matt Brown serves as producer, with Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy writing, and Gilles Bannier as lead director and executive producer. ITV Studios will also distribute the series internationally.
