‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season One Beams Onto ITVX This October

by Dave Elliott

UK Trekkies, set your phasers to stream! The first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be making its UK free-to-air debut this October when it lands on ITVX. Originally premiering on Paramount+ in 2022, this is the first time the show has been picked up outside of the subscription service in the UK, giving a whole new audience the chance to boldly go where no ITVX viewer has gone before.

For those unfamiliar, ‘Strange New Worlds’ spins out of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, following the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the years before Captain James T. Kirk takes the chair of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series sees Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels) as Captain Pike, Rebecca Romijn (X-Men) as Number One, and Ethan Peck (10 Things I Hate About You) as a younger Spock. They are joined by a rich ensemble including Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong (Line of Duty) as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia (New Amsterdam) as Lt. Erica Ortegas, Babs Olusanmokun (Dune) as Dr. M’Benga, and Bruce Horak as chief engineer Hemmer.

A Hit Across the Galaxy

When it first launched, ‘Strange New Worlds’ had the strongest debut ever for a Star Trek series, becoming the most-watched original show in the franchise during its first 90 days on Paramount+. It also found an eager audience in the UK, ranking among the top two most-watched originals on Paramount+ when it first dropped. Paramount clearly saw the potential, and the series has gone on to run for multiple seasons. Season 3 is currently streaming, and the show has already been renewed all the way up to a 5th and final season.

Season One Adventures

Season one takes a deliberately episodic approach, evoking the classic feel of Star Trek while giving it a modern edge. Across ten episodes, the crew of the Enterprise tackle first contact dilemmas, battles with old enemies like the Gorn, and light-hearted diversions that test friendships and romances. There are moral quandaries, galaxy-spanning mysteries, and a finale that directly teases the arrival of Captain Kirk, all while weaving in Pike’s struggle with the knowledge of his own destiny and Spock’s conflict between logic and humanity. It is Star Trek at its most adventurous, hopeful, and emotional, balancing spectacle with the optimism that has always defined the franchise.

Produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, ‘Strange New Worlds’ has become a crown jewel in the ever-expanding Star Trek universe. With multiple spin-offs and crossovers already behind it, this is the one show that most directly captures the spirit of “seeking out new life and new civilizations.”

All episodes of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 1 premiere Sunday, 19th October 2025 on ITVX in the UK.
