Get a First Look at Ted Danson in ‘A Man on the Inside’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has dropped first-look images for A Man on the Inside Season 2, and it is shaping up to be another comedy gem. The series, created by Mike Schur (The Good Place, Parks and Recreation), returns with Ted Danson back in action as Charles Nieuwendyk, this time going undercover at Wheeler College.

Season 1 saw Charles sneak into an assisted living facility on a mission to uncover missing jewellery, but the new season shifts gears, taking him undercover on a bustling college campus. And he is not going it alone. The cast list is stacked, with both returning favourites and new faces joining the mystery.

Back from the first season are Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Emily, Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Grace and Frankie) as Julie, Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Didi, and Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences) as Calbert. Joining them this year is Mary Steenburgen (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Book Club), who also happens to be Danson’s real-life wife, stepping into the role of Mona Margadoff, a former musician who becomes central to Charles’s latest case.

They are joined by an impressive roster of new arrivals at Wheeler College. Gary Cole (NCIS, Veep) plays Brad Vinick, a successful executive whose generous donation to his alma mater kicks off the chain of events that draws Charles into undercover life on campus. Michaela Conlin (Bones, For All Mankind) steps in as Andrea Yi, an economics professor excited about the fresh opportunities at the school, while Max Greenfield (The Neighborhood, Unfrosted) plays the charismatic college president Jack Beringer, whose role relies on keeping wealthy alumni happy.

Sam Huntington (Superman Returns, Being Human) takes on the part of Max Griffin, a fiery professor of journalism known for ruffling feathers, while Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth, Taskmaster) appears as Apollo Lambrakis, a contractor with an affable personality and lofty literary ambitions. Constance Marie (George Lopez, With Love) plays Vanessa, a former con artist who occasionally feeds Julie (Estrada) information from the criminal underworld, and David Strathairn (Alphas, The Bourne Legacy) is Dr. Cole, Wheeler’s most famous professor and the head of the English department.

Rounding out the newcomers, Jill Talley (Mr. Show, SpongeBob SquarePants) portrays Holly Bodgemark, the perpetually frazzled provost, while Madison Hu (The Brothers Sun, The Boogeyman) is Claire, a student juggling multiple jobs to cover tuition. Lisa Gilroy (Interior Chinatown, Jury Duty) plays Kelseigh Rose, a budding photographer and newlywed to Brad Vinick, and Linda Park (Bosch, For All Mankind) appears as Elizabeth Muki, who leads the college’s fine arts department.

Mike Schur could not resist a joke about the show’s star:

“We are thrilled to make another season of A Man on the Inside, starring young up-and-comer Ted Danson. From our partners at Netflix and Universal TV to the writers, cast, and crew, it’s a truly exceptional team of talented and lovely people, with one notable exception (young up-and-comer Ted Danson, who’s kind of a nightmare).”

For those who missed it, A Man on the Inside was inspired by Maite Alberdi’s Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent. The first season hit Netflix’s Top 10 for five weeks, was Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and earned both Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations for Danson. It was also selected as one of the American Film Institute’s top TV programs of 2024.

Behind the scenes, Schur is joined again by executive producers Morgan Sackett, David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez (Micromundo Producciones), and Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements (Motto Pictures). Netflix’s Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta summed up the approach best:

“We’re passionate about all types of comedy at Netflix. This allows us to take bold swings on creators and bet big on talent who want to share new stories with the largest possible audience.”

With Danson leading the charge, Steenburgen at his side, and Wheeler College providing fertile ground for both academic chaos and undercover intrigue, expect plenty of sharp laughs, heartfelt moments, and a brand-new list of suspects for Charles to investigate.

A Man on the Inside’ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 20th November 2025 on Netflix.
