Harlan Coben is back with a brand new mystery that wants to pull the rug out from under you, and the first trailer for ‘Run Away‘ makes it clear that trust is a luxury no one can afford. The limited series arrives on Netflix in the new year and looks set to deliver Coben’s signature mix of family secrets, buried trauma and narrative whiplash.
The story follows Simon Greene, played by James Nesbitt (Bloodlands, The Missing), a man who appears to have the perfect life if you only look at the smiling photos and home videos that fill the opening of the trailer. Those carefully curated memories are shattered when his daughter Paige, played by Ellie de Lange (The Serpent), suddenly vanishes without warning.
Simon’s desperate search draws him into an uneasy alliance with private investigator Elena Ravenscroft, played by Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey). She insists she needs to speak to Paige and makes it clear she is not the only person chasing the truth. Whether Simon can trust her becomes one of many uncomfortable questions that hang over ‘Run Away’.
Things spiral further when Aaron, one of the last people seen with Paige and played by Thomas Flynn (Ridley Road), turns up murdered. A disorientated encounter with Paige in a park leaves Simon convinced Aaron has been keeping her against her will, and that someone close to his family may have had a reason to silence him. The investigation is led by Detective Isaac Fagbenle, played by Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away with Murder), who begins pulling at threads that threaten to unravel the Greene family.
Across the eight episodes, Coben promises twists that carry heavy emotional consequences. In an interview, he said, “Run Away is an emotional roller coaster. I think maybe more than any other series we’ve done, it will keep you off-balance and guessing.” He also teases that fans will be convinced they have the answer multiple times before being proven wrong, promising a final shocker waiting at the finish line.
As the trailer closes, Simon clings to a single hope, telling his wife, Ingrid, played by Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting, Speechless), that they only need to find Paige and bring her home. The question is how far he will go and what it will cost.
‘Run Away’ Season 1 premieres Thursday, 1st January 2026 on Netflix.
