Prime Video has confirmed a substantial new round of casting for its upcoming ‘Tomb Raider‘ TV series, adding a heavyweight ensemble to the already announced Sophie Turner, who leads the show as iconic adventurer Lara Croft.
Newly revealed cast members include Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson, alongside a broader mix of familiar faces and emerging talent.
The series is created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also serves as executive producer and co-showrunner with Chad Hodge. Direction and executive production duties include Jonathan Van Tulleken, with Amazon MGM Studios, Legendary Television, Crystal Dynamics, and Story Kitchen all involved behind the scenes.
Based on the long-running video game franchise, ‘Tomb Raider’ follows the globe-trotting exploits of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft, with the new series expanding the mythology by blending classic game characters with brand new additions.
Several roles are confirmed as characters lifted directly from the games. Martin Bobb-Semple plays Zip, Lara’s long-standing tech support and trusted ally. Jason Isaacs portrays Atlas DeMornay, revealed here as Lara’s uncle, while Bill Paterson takes on the role of Winston, the Croft family’s long-serving butler.
Other characters are newly created for the television adaptation. Jack Bannon plays Gerry, Lara’s personal pilot and enthusiastic snack collector, while John Heffernan appears as David, an exhausted government official pulled into Lara’s increasingly chaotic world. Celia Imrie portrays Francine, the champagne-loving Head of Advancement at the British Museum, joined by Juliette Motamed as Georgia, a by-the-book museum curator devoted to proper historical preservation.
On the antagonistic side, Sasha Luss plays Sasha, a fierce and deeply competitive new adversary for Lara, while August Wittgenstein appears as Lukas, an illegal raider whose past is closely intertwined with Lara’s own. Paterson Joseph rounds out the cast as Thomas Warner, a senior government official brought in to clean up a rapidly spiralling mess. Looming over it all is Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious high-flying figure keen to exploit Lara’s unique talents.
Speaking about the project, Sophie Turner said, “I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male-dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge added, “Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!”
