Channel 4 is turning the stress of the property chain into prime thriller territory with new six-part drama ‘Wrong Move’, a darkly comic series from award-winning producers Roughcut Television.
Created and written by Ben Edwards (Coma, Miss Scarlet & The Duke), the six-part, hour-long series follows three families whose lives become entangled after one fatal mistake. Produced by BAFTA-winning Roughcut Television (Little Disasters, Coma, Big Boys) and distributed by Fremantle, the drama promises twists, tension, and a very British brand of stress.
The series centres on 40-somethings Michael and Catherine, who are hoping a move into their dream “forever home” will save their marriage. They’re selling to expectant parents Stella and Juliette, who in turn are selling to first-time buyers Asif and Emily. So far, so painfully normal. The real problem is at the top of the chain.
Enter Detective Sergeant Trevor Bamford, a man described as the psychopath at the summit of this increasingly fragile property pyramid. On the night before the sale, Trevor calls the entire move off, unleashing chaos on everyone beneath him. When the buyers band together to try and salvage the situation, events spiral into a confrontation with deadly consequences.
Channel 4’s Interim Head of Drama, Gwawr Lloyd, said: “Wrong Move is a gripping, bold thriller that captures the pressure of moving house and reveals the hidden lives of both the vendors and the buyers. It cleverly exposes just how high the stakes can be within the property chain and how much of a roller-coaster the process becomes for our characters. It’s such a smart and entertaining premise for a show and we’re very excited to be working with Ben Edwards and the Roughcut team.”
Alex Smith, Creative Director at Roughcut, added: “Wrong Move takes the seemingly ordinary world of the property chain and reveals the power, ambition and human cost beneath it. Channel 4 is the ideal partner for this thrilling new series from Ben Edwards’ brilliant mind and we are very excited to work with them and continue growing Roughcut’s slate of hit dramas.”
The series is commissioned by Gwawr Lloyd and Louise Donald for Channel 4. It is produced by Rebecca Davies (Protection, Cobra, McDonald & Dodds) and directed by Rene Pannevis (The Tower, Looted), with Ash Atalla and Alex Smith serving as executive producers for Roughcut.
‘Wrong Move’ will begin filming this Spring and does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Channel 4 in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
