Michael Sheen To Host BBC’s ‘House of Games’ Following Richard Osman Exit

‘House of Games’ is heading into a new era, with Michael Sheen set to take over hosting duties on the BBC quiz favourite later this year.

The multi-award-winning actor will front the next run of the hit BBC Two and BBC iPlayer series, stepping in after Richard Osman decided to leave the show following nine years at the helm. Sheen will record 100 episodes for the upcoming run, marking his first time hosting a quiz show.

That makes this a pretty fun bit of casting, really. Sheen has the intelligence, warmth and slightly mischievous energy that feels like a natural fit for a format built around clever wordplay, weird trivia and the occasional Answer Smash meltdown.

Sheen said: “Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I’m incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set.”

Tamara Gilder, Joint MD for Remarkable Entertainment, added: “We are thrilled to be handing Michael Sheen the keys to House of Games. The show has always been a love letter to those who adore quizzes – and we have a new host who loves them as much as we do. We can’t wait to start filming.”

Caroline O’Neill, BBC Commissioning Executive, also said: “We’re delighted to have Michael Sheen stepping into the House of Games. His charisma and passion for playfulness will be a joy for audiences and we’ve no doubt he’ll relish throwing himself into a fiercely fought Answer Smash. We can’t wait to share this next era of the show with viewers at home.”

Produced by Remarkable Entertainment, part of Banijay UK, ‘House of Games’ has become one of the BBC’s most reliable and charming quiz hits, with its mix of celebrity contestants, daft prizes and deceptively evil rounds turning it into teatime comfort viewing for a lot of us.

‘House of Games’ will return on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later in 2026.
