‘The Institute’ Season 2 Trailer Arrives Ahead Of November UK Premiere On MGM+

by Dave Elliott

MGM+ has released the official trailer and key art for Season 2 of ‘The Institute’, with the Stephen King thriller returning this November. Luke and his friends may have escaped, but putting a sinister organisation out of business apparently takes rather more than making it through the front door.

The new season picks up in the aftermath of the group’s climactic escape from Dennison. Having survived their ordeal, Luke and his fellow escapees are now searching for a way to end the Institute for good. Unfortunately, the people behind it have rebuilding plans of their own, and a new arrival with very deep pockets could make that task considerably harder.

Joining the cast is Alfie Allen (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Rogue Heroes’) as tech billionaire Nolan Reeves. The Director enlists Nolan to help rebuild the Institute, bringing a wealthy new ally into an organisation that was already doing a thoroughly unpleasant job of exploiting vulnerable children. If you were hoping its next investor might insist on a basic safeguarding policy, this probably isn’t the show for you.

Meanwhile, Ms. Sigsby is adjusting to life as a fugitive. Rather than taking the opportunity to reconsider her career choices, she is looking for a route back into the organisation. With Luke’s group trying to destroy it, The Director trying to restore it, and Sigsby trying to reclaim her place within it, the new season sets up a struggle over the Institute’s future from several directions.

For anyone who has yet to venture inside, ‘The Institute’ is based on King’s best-selling novel and follows gifted teenager Luke Ellis, who is abducted and taken to a mysterious facility. There, he meets other children with unusual abilities, including telepathy and telekinesis, who have been kidnapped and subjected to disturbing experiments. Their talents make them valuable to their captors, which is very bad news for the children themselves.

The story also follows Tim Jamieson, a former police officer hoping to build a new life whose path becomes entangled with Luke’s. That combination of extraordinary abilities, ordinary people and adults abusing their power provides the foundation for the series. Season 2 shifts the immediate goal from escaping the organisation to finding a way to stop it, raising the obvious question of whether freedom can last while the Institute still exists.

Joe Freeman (‘Doctors’) returns as Luke Ellis, alongside Ben Barnes (‘Shadow and Bone’, ‘The Punisher’) as Tim Jamieson and Mary-Louise Parker (‘Weeds’, ‘The West Wing’) as Ms. Sigsby.

The returning ensemble also includes Simone Miller (‘Detention Adventure’) as Kalisha, Fionn Laird (‘Under the Banner of Heaven’) as Nicky, Arlen So (‘Private Eyes West Coast’) as George, Robert Joy (‘CSI: NY’) as Dr. Hendricks, and Hannah Galway (‘Sex/Life’) as Wendy.

Behind the camera, Jack Bender directs, with the teleplay by Benjamin Cavell. Stephen King, Bender and Cavell executive produce alongside Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, Ed Redlich and Michael Mahoney.

You can watch the newly released trailer above. With the survivors moving against the organisation and its leadership recruiting a billionaire to help it recover, there is clearly unfinished business on both sides. Escaping was only the beginning.

‘The Institute’ Season 2 premieres Sunday, 8th November 2026 on MGM+ in the UK and USA.
