Planning a bank robbery is one thing. Pulling it off is quite another. Getting away with it afterwards? Well, that’s where things tend to get complicated. Apple TV has unveiled the official trailer for ‘12 12 12‘, an eight-part heist thriller starring Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Jamie Dornan (The Tourist, The Fall), which lands on the streaming service this November.
And, as the slightly unusual title suggests, this isn’t going to be a straightforward case of watching some criminals break into a vault and make a run for it.
The drama follows two men on opposite sides of the law. Mackie plays a disgraced FBI agent, while Dornan portrays an American career criminal. Their increasingly dangerous game of cat and mouse stretches across Europe, with everything revolving around an audacious raid on a bank vault buried deep beneath the streets of Zurich. Given the location, you would hope the Swiss have invested in some fairly decent locks.
Twelve Months, Twelve Hours, Twelve Days
The title is actually the key to the show’s central storytelling trick. Every episode moves between three distinct periods: the 12 months spent planning the robbery, the 12 hours in which the heist takes place, and the 12 days that follow.
That means viewers won’t simply watch events unfold in chronological order. Instead, the series can explore how the plan came together, what actually happened when it was put into motion, and the consequences once the dust starts to settle. A decision made during the preparations could look rather different once we’ve seen how it plays out, and somebody who appears to have everything under control during the robbery might be in a considerably worse position afterwards.
It’s an intriguing way to tackle a familiar genre. Heist dramas usually have plenty of moving parts already, without asking the audience to keep track of three different clocks. If the pieces fit together, though, there’s plenty of room for reveals, reversals and the sort of elaborate plotting that makes you want to go back and see what you missed.
A Strong Cast On Both Sides Of The Law
Alongside its two leads, the ensemble features Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2, Hellboy: The Crooked Man), Agathe Rousselle (Titane), Sallie Harmsen (Blade Runner 2049), José Garcia (Now You See Me) and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country).
Mackie and Dornan are also executive producers on the project, so both have a hand in the series beyond their on-screen roles. The pair make for an interesting match-up, particularly with the story positioning one as a federal agent whose career has gone off the rails and the other as someone who has made crime his profession. Neither sounds like the sort of person you’d particularly want chasing you through Europe.
The series was created by Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, who also serve as executive producers. Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) directs several episodes, including the pilot, and executive produces. Other executive producers include Samantha Corbin-Miller, David Knoller and Jason Spire, with Mackie producing through his Make It With Gravy banner. Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content are behind the production.
Apple TV will launch the thriller with two episodes, before switching to a weekly release for the remaining six, carrying the story through to Christmas. So, if you’re after something involving elaborate criminal plans, double-crosses and a rather expensive-looking hole in the Swiss banking industry’s security arrangements, this could be one to keep an eye on.
‘12 12 12‘ Season 1 premieres Friday, 13th November 2026 on Apple TV in the UK and US.
