Disney+ has released the trailer for ‘The Land‘, a new NFL family drama from Dan Fogelman, the creator of ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Paradise’. Starring Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Organized Crime), Mandy Moore (This Is Us) and William H. Macy (Shameless), the series kicks off in February, and it looks like the biggest battles won’t necessarily be happening on the football field.
Set around the Cleveland Browns, the drama follows head coach Danny Roarke (Christopher Meloni), who is running out of chances to turn the struggling team around. After several disappointing seasons, the pressure from the fans and the people upstairs is growing, and another failure could mean his time in charge is over. Unfortunately, his potential saviour comes with a rather substantial complication.
The Browns have drafted a promising quarterback from Ohio State. That’s good news for a coach desperate to start winning games. The awkward part? The young player, Connor Roarke, is Danny’s own son, played by Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla). As if the usual pressures of professional sport weren’t enough, Danny now has to balance decisions about his team’s future with being a father. Nothing says healthy family dynamics quite like having millions of fans judging your parenting from the stands.
Family Drama In The Front Office
And things aren’t exactly calm in the executive offices either. The team’s owner, Hal Durkin (William H. Macy), is facing a major succession decision, as he must choose which of his two daughters is best suited to take over the franchise. Mandy Moore plays Lauren Durkin, while Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) plays her sister, setting up the power struggle at the heart of the family’s future.
That gives ‘The Land’ two families with a lot riding on the same team. One is trying to save its future on the field, while the other is deciding who gets to control it from behind the scenes. With an impatient fanbase demanding results, there’s plenty of scope for personal rivalries, difficult loyalties and some spectacularly uncomfortable family conversations.
Although the Cleveland Browns are a real NFL franchise, the characters and ownership drama here are fictional. And while American football provides the backdrop, the central conflicts look accessible even if you couldn’t tell a quarterback from a cornerback. You don’t need to know the rules of the sport to understand why working for your dad, or competing with your sister for the family business, might get a little messy.
A Familiar Face Behind The Drama
Fogelman is no stranger to throwing complicated family relationships into the spotlight. He previously created ‘This Is Us’, which made an art form of getting viewers emotionally attached to several generations of one family, and ‘Paradise’, which took his character-driven approach in a considerably more twisty direction. ‘The Land’ looks like a chance to combine those interests with the high-pressure world of the NFL.
The series also reunites Fogelman with Mandy Moore, who starred in ‘This Is Us’. Alongside the central cast, there’s Chace Crawford (The Boys), Tanner Zagarino, Bridget Moynahan (Blue Bloods) and Omar Epps (House), adding plenty of familiar faces to the on-field and off-field drama.
Fogelman created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Jess Rosenthal, Kevin Falls and Justin Adler also executive produce, alongside David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold and Jason T. Reed for Skydance Sports. The drama comes from 20th Television and Skydance Sports.
Disney+ will launch the series in the UK with two episodes, followed by new instalments every Monday. In the US, it’ll stream on Hulu. It’s also arriving immediately after the Super Bowl, which feels like rather appropriate timing for a drama about a team desperate to give its supporters something to cheer about.
‘The Land‘ Season 1 premieres Monday, 15th February 2027 on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
