‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3 Trailer Teases The Forging Of The One Ring

by Dave Elliott

Prime Video has unleashed the epic new trailer for Season 3 of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘, and things are looking rather grim for the inhabitants of Middle-earth. Sauron is closer than ever to achieving his ultimate goal, the forging of the One Ring, and the free peoples of Middle-earth are running out of time to stop him when the fantasy series returns this November.

“All of it has come to this,” says Galadriel in the new footage, which gives us a spectacular look at the escalating war against the Dark Lord and his armies. Elves, Dwarves, Men and Wizards are all being dragged into the conflict, while Sauron prepares to create the one piece of jewellery that will make everyone’s lives considerably more miserable.

One Ring To Rule Them All

Season 3 jumps forward five years following the fall of Eregion, with Middle-earth now fully engulfed in war. Sauron’s armies have swept across the continent, conquering almost everything in their path, leaving just a handful of strongholds standing between the Dark Lord and complete domination.

Among the last bastions of resistance are Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves have sealed themselves deep within their mountain halls, and the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, protected by the power of their Three Rings.

Meanwhile, Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers (The Survivors), has established himself in his newly completed fortress of Barad-dûr in Mordor. From there, he is working relentlessly towards forging the One Ring, which would give him the power to bring even his remaining enemies under his control.

The trailer also shows Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud), and the Elves struggling to maintain their defences, while tensions within Khazad-dûm threaten to fracture the Dwarven kingdom from within. Over in Númenor, rival political factions are pushing the island kingdom dangerously close to civil war.

And in the eastern lands of Rhûn, Gandalf, played by Daniel Weyman (The North Water), is embracing his magical abilities as he attempts to turn the tide against the gathering darkness.

Basically, it’s all going spectacularly wrong for everyone who isn’t Sauron.

The Rise Of The Ring-Servants

One of the major new threats appearing this season is the Nazgnagôl, terrifying black-armoured servants of Sauron who represent an earlier incarnation of the Nazgûl, the Ringwraiths familiar to fans of Tolkien’s stories and Peter Jackson’s films.

Unlike the ghostly figures we know from the Third Age, these Ring-servants are still mortal beings, giving the series an opportunity to explore their transformation into the creatures who will eventually become some of Sauron’s most feared followers.

Among them is Khamûl the Easterling, played by Zubin Varla (Andor), one of the few Ringwraiths actually named in Tolkien’s writings.

The third season also introduces Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) as Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband, alongside Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan) as Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV, and Andrew Richardson (Guys & Dolls) as Anárion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur.

And, perhaps one of the more unexpected casting announcements, Simon Pegg (Star Trek) is lending his voice to the Balrog, which will actually speak in the series for the first time. Given what we already know is lurking beneath Khazad-dûm, that probably isn’t going to improve the Dwarves’ situation much…

An Epic Battle For Middle-earth

The new season promises to bring the show’s various storylines together as the remaining free peoples of Middle-earth face an increasingly desperate struggle against Sauron’s forces.

With the Dark Lord now openly pursuing his plans for domination, the focus moves from the manipulation and deception of the earlier seasons towards an all-out war for survival.

Of course, anyone familiar with Tolkien’s mythology knows that the One Ring does eventually get forged. The interesting question is exactly how the series will handle that moment, and what it means for the characters we’ve been following since the first season.

Returning showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay continue to oversee the production, alongside executive producers Lindsey Weber, Kate Hazell, Justin Doble and executive producer-director Charlotte Brändström.

Prime Video is also doing something a little different with the release schedule this time around. Rather than spreading the eight-episode season across eight weeks, the streamer will launch with four episodes, followed by two more the following week and the final two a week after that. So we’ll be getting the entire season over just three weeks.

The first two seasons, comprising sixteen episodes, are available to stream on Prime Video now, should you fancy a trip back to Middle-earth before the Dark Lord starts handing out his latest collection of extremely dangerous rings.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘ Season 3 premieres Wednesday, 11th November 2026 on Prime Video.
