Outlander

“Outlander” follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
The “Outlander” series, adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure into one epic tale. From Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore.

When are they repeating outlander season 1 on more 4 sky tv
More4 tonight stated Outlander Season 2 coming soon.
Is Outlander season 2 going to be shown on British tv in 2018? I watched season 1 last year and wnat to see what happens next. If so, when? Why the delay? why the uncertainty? why the mystery? Is it because no-one knows what they are doing?
The tv broadcast was on More4. It’s delayed because they have 2nd run rights after Amazon Prime, who air the show the day after the US. All 3 seasons so far are on Amazon Prime Video. More4 will have to wait a certain length of time before they are allowed to air it. It was late June for More4 last year so it might be that again, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Check more4 listings… it’s starts Wednesday I think or next Wednesday. ..
Just checked listings and More4 this Wednesday is series 1 episode 1
It’s on every week night! !!!
I emailed more4 and enquired about outlander series 2 and was just told to “watch out for the promotion advertised on tv…it will be very well publicized ”
That still doesn’t help!!!
We need answers now ….
I can’t believe that the programmer’s don’t know when its going to be scheduled to be on tv….
Are they trying to hype up viewers anticipation …
Aahh…
Makes me cross….
Just like many viewers, I wish to be informed of the starting date of Season 2 of Outlander on More 4. It is a long time coming. Speed up please…
It’s starting Wednesday the 23rd of may at 12:10 am. So technically Thursday morning then it’s on every week day after that…
It might do but some TV listings guides say it’s series 1 not 2.
Sorry yes it’s season one. Showing it every week night. So season two will be starting afterwards. At 9 pm .
Please please get the controllers to speed up the process and get outlander series 2 on more 4 soon .
My mum who is eighty is constantly nagging me to find out what happens to the characters
Does anyone know if the 2nd series of Outlander is going to be shown on more 4 & if so any idea when?
I contacted More4 and was told they have no details of programming more than two weeks in advance. They did say they pass on comments to the relevant department and track how much interest is shown in specific programmes. So anyone who wants to see Season 2 on More4, please email them!
Yes on more4 Wednesday night….
Is outlander series 2 coming to more4?
I want to know too. Have read all the books a few times a few years ago. Really hooked me – even went to Culluden to view Fraser stone!!!
Yes Wednesday 23rd of may at 12 10 am.on more 4
Sorry that’s season 1 again. But season 2 will start afterwards
I see the date, but what time???
Can’t wait!
Channel 4 have announced that they will start showing season 1 on more4 at somepoint in June (announced 13th June 2017)
When does it start
Thought this was a fantastic story line, my husband and I really fell in love with the series, watched series one this week can’t wait for series 2 to come out on DVDs, if it hasn’t already, we will be buying it soon. Thank you so much for a captivating program.
Nancy and Mike Cornwall
I think it’s strange, and also very unfair that the new season of Game of Thrones will be airing in the UK the day after it goes out in the USA but that no-one among the UK broadcasters has had the decency to tell us whether we are going to see Outlander, or even if it has been bought for the UK viewing public. Shame on you, UK Broadcasters.
It’s political. Think about it. Although the show is fictional it contains a lot of historical facts. After the SCOTTISH referendum. …and with general elections so close…the last thing the English government want to do is air a program that may raise strong sentiments against the English government and more scots wanting more power.
That’s certainly one of the glib conspiracy theories lurking in parts of the Internet, but bearing in mind that a) England is actually the only one of the four parts of the country not to have a government per se, b) the referendum was over months ago, c) neither the national government nor the devolved executives control the commercial businesses who might or might not be interested in buying this product (several of whom are owned by non-UK entities) and d) most of the conspiracy theorists have no idea of what is involved in acquisition discussions and the costs involved.
If the conspiracy theorists had thought it through, there would surely be a reason why the Outlander books hadn’t been banned in the run-up to the General Election. It’s also pretty poor of the conspiracy theorists to suggest that Scottish people would be influenced in such important decisions by works of historical fiction.
In addition, some people focus so obsessively on one subject or one programme, to the complete ignorance of all others.
The Affair, Agent Carter, Gang Related, not to mention Once Upon a Time all also do not have UK buyers right now. The American market is far larger than the UK market, and there isn’t the scope for British channels to buy everything that is produced in the US.
The latest information is that it will air this year in the UK, which is much the same as other foreign (non-US) markets.
I hope that helps clarify. It isn’t political. It’s business.
My sister and I read the books several years ago and the stories are so well written and stay with you in absolute detail. We were so excited but cautious when we heard it was to be filmed. I have loved every episode and have rewatched the series thus far. We obviously are so lucky RTE were one of the stations to put it on! Apart from the landscape and accents (which I adore) I am so loving the costume design. All the costumes , male and female, seem very beautiful and probably authentic although I have no training. All I can say is I can’t wait for April to get my next fix.
Does anyone know why its taking so long for Outlander to be shown in the U.K.? My book friends that live in the U.K. want to know whats taking so long?
i have just watched the whole season 1 of Outlander and got to say this is the best thing I’ve seen in years, well made well acted great story…ps I’m Scottish born and Bred and live in Scotland still…it’s bloody fantastic, this has to be picked up by the UK ..
Wow, well that certainly makes it sound amazing.
I sincerely hope you watched it legally abroad somewhere, because if not, what you’ve done is decreased the likelihood of the first and any future seasons being bought for the UK
Andrew, in the UK if you have digital channels RTE the Irish broadcaster is available, I have watched all of the first 8 episodes which they screened recently. As an Outlander book addict for 20 years I really couldn’t wait for my UK channels to pick it up. I can’t understand why they are dragging their heels on this one.
Since the digital switch overs were completed, everyone in the UK has digital channels now. However the Irish channels are not readily available in the UK, except in Northern Ireland. In Scotland, England and Wales, there may be some technical jiggery-pokery that can be done but they aren’t there.
Which is a little bit odd given that I get a handful of other foreign channels on TiVo- French for example.
As to the other issue, rights deals often do take a long time when large sums of money are at stake. We don’t usually take much notice when there isn’t the hype and, let’s face it, a degree of pseudo-political background, such as with Outlander.
Ive read all of the Outlander books up to date. I’m currently in Australia but moving back to the UK next week. I’ve watched and re watched the first 8 episodes of Outlander and can’t recommend it enough. It’s brilliant. Hurry up UK for a date to show it in the UK. Australia are showing the next 8 episodes in April! Why is the UK dragging its feet. It’s even been filmed in Scotland!
Have you found that people who haven’t read the books and/or don’t usually enjoys soaps, have enjoyed the eight episodes to the same extent?
whats our chance of getin this outlander series 1 in uk now ?cos i hear its making a big hit now and its been renew for season 2 now
It is beginning to look as though broadcasters in the UK don’t take notice of their viewers. Game shows, so called reality tv but no one has the common sense to show a decent series. Outlander has overtaken the ratings overseas, but we Brits have been left out in the cold. Poland started screening it today, so yet another country is enjoying this. It makes fans want to see pirated programmes, and we really don’t want to start down that road – do we?
We don’t. If British broadcasters weren’t interested, they wouldn’t have entered into negotiations with the distributors.
STILL no UK Broadcaster for Outlander? Shame on you UK programmers, stop being so petty – or are you just prissy?
It is just plain censorship.
I emailed Sony and they replied with the following
Hello Carol
Thank you for your interest in Outlander. We are close to finalising a deal for this series in the UK.
Best regards
Kylie Munnich
SVP, Sony Pictures Television
so hopefully this means we will get it before too much longer
When is a UK tv channel going to broadcast Outlander?
At some point after a deal is done to purchase the UK broadcast rights
Please please somebody pick up Outlander here. Having read all the books several times over I love the way Diana draws you in and all the characters are extremely believable. Having visited the States during August I was lucky enough to watch the series there. The production is absolutely brilliant and we need it here.
Outlander now in Iceland for heaven’s sake!
Do you mean Ireland?
So – – – – Outlander showing in USA, Canada, across Europe, RTE in Ireland and now ccross South America! What the devil is the UUK playing at? I can only assume programmer are all hiding under the same rock, or else they don’t want viewers. Do they want all the Outlander fans in the UK to commit piracy and rip the series? For good ness sake WAKE UP UK!
A deal has only just been struck for countries in South American and mainland Europe, which means that until now, like the UK, they didn’t have it either (and still don’t in fact as it is due for broadcast next year, giving a UK buyer plenty of time).
I’m quite sure that those who know how to commit piracy will do so anyway, just as they do with other programmes, whether they have a UK broadcaster or not.
Yep… I do have to agree it’s an odd one. I’m really not sure why this still hasn’t been picked up in the UK yet. I’ll see if I can find out any more from Sony.
Cheers
Dave
Sharon Howell is correct – Our lottery money is backing this production and Outlander is not being shown here? Even the BBC is providing the catering!!!
Luckily just returned from a visit to the USA this week. Family I was visiting recorded first 5 episodes for me. Saw 6 and 7 live. Only missed one before mid season break (really annoying huge Diana Gabaldon fan). Series fantastic by the way!!! But having watched episode 6 I feel that the timing of the Scottish referendum might have something to do with the fact that we haven’t been able to see it here. I am Scottish myself….the English not shown in particularly good light towards the Scots in that episode. Not sure it wouldn’t have swayed some undecided viewers to vote yes.
Fortunately that’s all over now and not relevant. The negotiations on Outlander, which were ongoing anyway, can continue, and when it does have a buyer, it can be broadcast throughout all of the UK at the same time together
My thoughts exactly,if they had shown this in Scotland prior to the referendum I could see an overwhelming Yes. Having watched it as an Englishman I am left feeling shamed!
Agree with Earl Grey, I too am English. This is shameless censorship and a disgrace in a so-called democracy.
It’s the same as any other imported programme yet to find a buyer. Every year, many US programmes just don’t come here at all (and vice versa), and even fewer from other countries. The fact that it’s based on books that some people have read makes no difference whatsoever.
It is possibly quite expensive, causing lengthy negotiations amongst prospective buyers.
The censorship conspiracy notion is pure nonsense.
My thoughts exactly. I’m afraid I couldn’t wait and downloaded the first 8 episodes (I’ve only got 3 more to watch….but am saving them as I know the 2nd half of the season won’t start again until April next year!) Ronald Moore has done an amazing job – and the series (at least up until now) has done full justice to the book. A classy adaptation all round. Now…UK Channels….SOMEONE – WAKE UP!!!
If more people copy your actions, then the UK broadcasters won’t need to bother because all the pretend “fans” will have stolen it already.
You do have a point of course, but then again, I live in the Netherlands and they’re not showing it here either. I was just giving my support to all the UK ‘fans’!
I’m quite sure the KLPD would consider it just as illegal
So, Outlander. The DVD of the first eight episodes is in the pipeline.
WE NEED OUTLAIN THE UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE SOMEONE GET IT AND GIVE US AN AIR DATE!
So now even Japan have a broadcast date for Outlander and UK tv companies are STILL dragging their feet. This isn’t about money but politics! Get real UK tv
Nationalist conspiracy nonsense. There is no UK date for Bitten, Crossbones, Reign, to name but a small handful. We simply don’t get every US programme that is ever made because it is a smaller market. What’s the Outlander broadcast date in Russia, China, South Africa, India? Are they all involved in the same politics?
For the avoidance of doubt, it’s money. Those people involved in creating these nonsense conspiracy theories may well find themselves in a smaller market still, with the lower purchasing power for imports that that would entail.
It is far too frequent that people disparage broadcasters simply because they haven’t yet bought or scheduled [insert name of programme that you really really want to see and can’t live without], when in fact the buying process is a little more involved than some may care to believe.
I live in Calif. USA. You have to watch this its a great show,Rent it when you can ,Gov. will much up letting you see it for at year. GOOD LUCK
My lottery money is used for this and it is a bl**dy good story, we need it here!
Watch this space…..:). But, I’m curious what you mean about the lottery money, though.
For those of you in the UK who feel it is a shame that Outlander has not been picked up by any cable or satellite provider…they won’t buy it from Sony/STARZ unless you tell them that you will subscribe to any channel that will air it! It’s a question of money (isn’t it always, lol?). If you are willing to pay for it and they know it, they may consider buying the air rights. @OutlanderAmbass as a group of dedicated fan groups has had a number of Twitter awareness events, and targeted as many companies as we could in order to tell them that fans WILL spend the money to be able to see the series that we have waited 25 years to see!
UK tv doesn’t really work like that I’m afraid – there are ‘free to air’ channels, then there are pay channels – the pay channels ALL come bundled there are no ‘extra’ fees for specific channels and only 2 main pay providers (Sky & VirginMedia) that show exactly the same channels, with the exception of Sky Atlantic which is basically HBO, but again there’s no extra fee – it’s part of your channel bundle. (Obviously Sports/Movies are extra bundles you add to your ‘entertainment channels’)
The US also has ‘free’ channels. UK is just horrible with the mandatory tv licensing is outrageous. Just more money for the rich. Time for everyone to get together and protest against the BBC. The UK doesn’t need them. There are a lot of other good shows on other UK channels. I would rather pay for what I watch.
Not sure what the BBC has to do with Outlander, but if you think that your licence fee is taken by the BBC and given to Chief Executives and Earls, rather than being invested in programming (much as the “free” channels do with their income from advertising, and the pay channels do with their subscriptions), then you will be deliriously happy to know that you’re completely wrong.
The licence fee, sadly, is very much near the bottom of things to be concerned about in the UK.
I was working in the old factory dividing it up in to film studios for starz moving in watch them building the castle set was very impressive
Is that the film set in Isola at Cumbernauld?
Just curious because I used to work there.
That’s the one!
makes me laugh to see that to co-incide with the release date Scottish tourism has produced a map showing the placing of key places in the series ….. shame that people can’t actually watch the series to see the places ….
That seems fair enough… Scottish tourism presumably wants to attract people who aren’t already in Scotland, including Americans who started watching Outlander last night.
The places on the map are also presumably the same for the television show as for the books, which are readily available in Scotland and the rest of country.
I’ve just watched Ep1 of Outlander here in Australia. I assumed that it had already aired in the UK! You’ll love it when you eventually get it!
No chance of this being aired before September ( Scottish referendum) if the BBC/ British government has anything to do with it .
Ah, that old chestnut…. The BBC is quite likely not one of the bidders, and the government absolutely not. At any rate, voters will surely make their decisions based on facts and common sense, rather than works of fiction spread out over 600+ pages.
So so so so disappointed that there is no date for this to be aired in the UK 🙁 Will it be possible to access it via Blinkbox or a similar service? I am not patient and would be prepared to pay to view this.
Once there is a buyer, yes. It’s likely there is more than one bidder, lengthening the process, but increasing the likelihood of a sale.
Another huge fan of the series here. First read the series back in the 1990s and have been following it ever since. I have re-read the books so many times I had to re-purchase the first three in hardback because my paperbacks were falling apart. I have always felt they would make a great film and when I found out it was going to be a TV series I was thrilled since it would no doubt mean far less of the story is chopped out due to time constraints. However, my excitement has been dimmed in recent months and I am sure I am not alone as to why. I am thoroughly disgusted that no UK broadcaster has picked this up yet. The US gets the first episode tomorrow (or last weekend if they watched it online via the channel), Canada and Australia have it within the next two weeks. The networks that picked it up for those countries were announced months ago! Even if a UK broadcaster does pick it up we are going to be in for a very long wait before it is aired. At the moment there isn’t any indication that a single broadcaster is going to show it. Like others have said, it is filmed in the UK, with a mainly British cast, based on a series of books steeped in British history that are hugely popular. But not one broadcaster can be bothered with picking it up to let us see it. Nor is there any indication if we will at least have a DVD release at any point in the future. At least with Supernatural (my favourite show at the moment and one that has been treated abominably by Sky Living) there will be a DVD release. For Outlander we haven’t even been… Read more »
It has only just started. It is far far far too early to have a DVD release date yet. (You’ll note there isn’t a DVD release date in the other countries you mention either).
I don’t understand the impatience. I’m sure it will come here too, and when it airs in foreign countries is pretty irrelevant.
Game of Thrones is filmed in Britain, with a mainly British cast too, and while it is available sooner, is only available to the fraction of Britain that has satellite dishes. I’m not sure if that’s any better.
Absolutely gutted that this isn’t being aired in the UK yet. I have read all the books three times over, now on the last one. Every time you read them again you find something you missed……………
Omg i have been looking forward to this since i started reading the books when i was 14! Why isnt this being shown in the Uk its filmed here for christs sake! I think its fair to say im not chuffed
I see that members of BAFTA will be able to see the first two episodes of Outlander in Glasgow. We ought to have the series asap
You’re very keen! Previews for BAFTA members isn’t uncommon, if you think about what BAFTA is. I’m quite sure we will get Outlander
San Diego Comic Con has been full of Outlander, producers, scriptwriters, cast, THE AUTHOR and more fans than you could possibly imagine. Surely the UK television companies must realise by now what a hit this is going to be. Come on, UK, buy it, broadcast it and put your ratings sky high!
If popularity at Comic con were much to go on, we’d have had more than one season of Firefly, sadly. However, I do think we will get Outlander here at some point, bearing in mind it hasn’t actually begun in the US yet
I think it is a shame that no uk television broadcaster has seen fit to pick up a series filmed in Scotland with a mostly UK cast, when the books from which the series is made are so popular. The USA, Canada and Australia all have air dates, but the uk so far seem to be ignoring the many fans who have contacted them. Bring Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander to the United Kingdom
I’m sure we will in due course. After all, we get a series filmed in Northern Ireland with a mostly UK cast!
I loved these books, have read everyone of them, I cannot wait !
I read every book in the Outlander series just after my partner died and found comfort in becoming absorbed in the series. If I can’t watch it on TV in the UK will it be available on DVD in due course.
When reading this series I was transported in time, just like Claire, and could forget the cares of my real life and live vicariously through her. I learned so much because Diane researched so well and I know a lot more about history and the places she and jamie lived. I understand more about the Scotts who came to the United States. I would love to have the series to watch over and over again.
I have been a fan of this series of books for many years and I am devastated to find that this series is not due to be shown in the UK.
Who can I contact to find out why?
Thanks
Diana
Before you suffer too much with panic and devastation, note that it doesn’t have a UK broadcaster yet. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t interest, nor that it won’t come here in due course. Patience!
Patience, what patience? I don’t have any patience.
I want to win! I’m an avid reader who has never ever loved a book series as much. Diana Gabaldon is ridiculously talented, and I’d love to own the series
thanks for the information
