Robson Green and Liz White star in this eight-part BBC crime drama set against the stunning Northumberland coastline and its surrounding market towns.
Joe Ruby (Robson Green) is a former convict and gambler attempting to turn his life around by volunteering at a local priory. However, when a monk is found murdered on the grounds, Joe finds himself drawn into the investigation led by DI Rose O’Connell (Liz White), an Oxford-educated detective with a razor-sharp intellect and an ice-cool disposition.
Despite their vastly different backgrounds and approaches, Rose soon discovers that Joe’s knowledge of the criminal underworld could prove surprisingly useful. Alongside enthusiastic young DS Raj Singh (Gurjeet Singh), the unlikely pair begin solving mysteries across Northumberland, frequently frustrating each other along the way.
Also starring Simon Callow as Father David, the series blends murder mysteries, humour and an unconventional detective partnership against some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery.
