The Portrait of a Lady follows Isabel Archer, a vivacious and intellectually curious young American who travels to Europe determined to experience life on her own terms. After rejecting several marriage proposals, she unexpectedly inherits a fortune that appears to secure her independence.
However, Isabel soon attracts the attention of two American expatriates, the elegant Madame Merle and the charming but calculating Gilbert Osmond, whose schemes threaten to trap her in a life far removed from the freedom she imagined.
Nell Tiger Free leads the cast alongside Jim Sturgess, Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy, Miranda Richardson, Jack Wolfe, Hugh Skinner, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Calypso Cragg, Hamish Frew, Thomas Coombes, Lydia Leonard and Dean-Charles Chapman.
