Set in 1980s Los Angeles, ‘The Shards’ follows Bret, an aspiring writer and observant teenager attending an elite prep school alongside his wealthy and deeply entangled group of friends. When the mysterious and magnetic Robert Mallory transfers to the school shortly before senior year, Bret becomes increasingly obsessed with uncovering the truth about him.
Robert’s arrival coincides with a growing wave of fear surrounding The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city. As Bret’s suspicions deepen, his relationships begin to fracture and his grip on reality starts to slip, drawing him into a dangerous world of jealousy, sex, obsession and violence beneath the glossy surface of privileged Los Angeles life.
