Based on Graeme Armstrong’s award-winning novel, ‘The Young Team’ is a six-part Scottish drama exploring friendship, identity, addiction, gang violence and the desperate need to belong.

Set in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, the story follows 15-year-old Alan ‘Azzy’ Williams (Jakob James Smith), who spends his Friday nights roaming the streets with his mates, drinking tonic wine, listening to techno and dreaming of becoming a fully initiated member of the local gang, the Young Team Posse (YTP).

But when Azzy makes a bold move to prove himself, he triggers a brutal territorial conflict that threatens to consume him and those closest to him. As violence escalates, Azzy finds himself caught between loyalty to his friends and the possibility of a different future.

Kevin McKidd stars as Azzy’s inspirational headteacher, Mr McGiver, while Laura Fraser plays his long-suffering mother, Angela. The cast also includes Connor Newall, Scot Greenan and a host of emerging Scottish talent.

Adapted for television by Armstrong himself, the series is directed by Paul McGuigan and Andrew Cumming, and produced by Synchronicity Films.
