From filmmaking brothers Mark and Jay Duplass (Cyrus) comes this non-traditional relationship comedy exploring the dreams and disappointing realities of four adults nearing 40. From the outside, life appears to be pretty perfect for married couple Brett (Mark Duplass, The League) and Michelle (Melanie Lynskey, Two and a Half Men) and their two super-cute kids. However, they’re struggling to rekindle the spark in their relationship, and while Brett, a moderately successful sound mixer, works hard to bring back the passion that’s been lacking in their marriage, Michelle is no longer content as a stay-at home mum and searches for a way to return to her social-activist roots. Adding to the stresses of family life are Michelle’s sister Tina (Amanda Peet, The Good Wife) and Brett’s best friend Alex (Steve Zissis, Jeff, Who Lives at Home). Alex was the guy preordained for greatness in high school but now he’s overweight, balding, and losing touch with his dream of being a successful actor and, when he faces eviction, moves in with Brett and Michelle. Tina, meanwhile, has spent her whole life getting by on her looks but now, her search for a wealthy man to take care of her has proved fruitless and she’s struggling to prove she can run a successful business. So there’s only thing for it: she’s moving in to Brett and Michelle’s already cramped house, too.
