August Howell has spent three decades in prison for drowning three of her young daughters. A descendant of the so-called Witch of Cambridge, she returns to a community that does not want her back. When concern grows that her return has sparked a modern-day witch hunt, the police ask August’s surviving daughter, Professor Wren Howell, to help find a killer. Wren is an academic and investigative psychologist, but this case also forces her to confront her family’s past. Abi Morgan writes the six-part drama.
