Video Interview With Composer Jake Monaco (And His Interesting Collection Of Instruments!)

by Dave Elliott

Recently we had a chance to chat to Composer Jake Monaco, where we not only talked about his film and tv work, but also got to view his extremely unique collection of musical instruments!

If you’re not sure where you may have heard Jake’s work, he recently scored the music for the return of Patsy & Edina in the Absolutely Fabulous movie. On the TV side, he is currently scoring three family-favorite animated series – Amazon’s The Stinky and Dirty Show, Netflix’s Dinotrux, and Warner Bros. Animation’s Be Cool Scooby Doo. Jake’s music will also soon be featured in Fox’s highly-anticipated action comedy Keeping Up With the Joneses starring Jon Hamm, Gal Gadot, Isla Fisher, and Zach Galifianakis.

In addition, his musical fingerprints can be found on some of the biggest film scores of the past decade. As a producer and composer of additional music for Christophe Beck, Monaco has contributed to the animated magic of Frozen, the record-breaking laughs of The Hangover trilogy, and the furry hijinks of The Muppets.

Like many musicians, Jake collects musical instruments. However, his extensive collection is a rather unique mix of custom ‘found object’ instruments that shows and demonstrates during the interview. These include a cigar box violin, hubcap banjo, and a wine box bass, plus many more.

If you want to know more about the instruments, you can find Rich Brigg’s website here.
