Why They Fight – A Explaination of The Writer’s Strike
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you’ll be aware that the Writer’s Guild of America is currently on strike over the pay they get from DVD sales, and digital broadcasting. This is causing havoc with the US networks scheduling and programming (as it was intended to do). Daily shows such as Letterman, Leno, The Daily Show, etc… are off air. Series we get in the UK such as 24, Heroes, Lost, Family Guy, House, Prison Break, Scrubs, The Office US, Nip/Tuck are all either postponed, or running shortened seasons.
In case your wondering why this is happening, i came across this nice succinct explanation of why they are striking and why it’s important they do so:
It’s not like they’re asking for a lot. If your still not convinced, think of it this way… without writers, you’d be stuck in a hell of wall-to-wall reality tv *shudder*.
If you’d like to show your support for the strike there is an online petition running here.
