Who Should Get The Green Lantern Power Ring?

by Dave Elliott

Green Lantern, arguably the 4th big hitter of DC Comics stars (after Bats, Supes, and Wonder Woman), is due to get his own movie, directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), and is scheduled to begin shooting in Nov 09 in Sydney.

The plot tells the origins of how Harold “Hal” Jordan, a second-generation test pilot is given the power ring and battery (the green lantern) by a dying alien (Abin Sur), whose spaceship crashed on Earth. Abin Sur used his ring to seek out an individual who was “utterly honest and born without fear” to take his place as Green Lantern.

Lot’s of rumours flying around about who will get the power ring the latest being this guy:

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper - The new Green Lantern?

“Erm… who?” you may ask. This most recent rumour comes from the people at Hitwise. He’s been in Alias, and Nip/Tuck as Hearts ‘N Scalpels television star ‘Aidan Stone’. Beyond that, i can’t really tell you an awful lot about him. Would seem sensible to go for a lesser know actor when taking on a comic book role, and he got the right sort of look for Hal. Here’s his imdb profile and wiki page.

The other name that’s been floating around a lot for the role of Hal Jordan is Chris Pine, who can currently be seen going where no one has gone before in JJ Abram’s Star Trek as the new James T Kirk. Chris did an awesome job as Kirk and i can see him transferring that Kirkian swagger over the character of Green Lantern.

A few other names i’ve seen suggested are Dexter’s Michael C. Hall, Firefly’s Nathan Fillion (although I think he’d make a great Captain America, and being one of DC’s big guns would scupper any chance of that), Battlestar Galatica’s Tahmoh Penikett, or Angel/Bones star David Boreanaz.

Make you opinions know in the poll below, or if you have any other suggestions leave them in the comments!
