The Mentalist, Season 4 on DVD

Tomorrow (8th October 2012) sees the DVD release of  of THE MENTALIST, Season 4 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

For those of you not familiar with the show, it features Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation and psychological manipulation.

Notorious for his lack of protocol and past as a former psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned, Jane’s role in cracking a series of tough high-profile cases is greatly valued by his fellow agents. However, no-nonsense Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) alternates between reluctantly acknowledging Jane’s usefulness and blasting him for his theatrics, narcissism and dangerous lack of boundaries. Lisbon’s team includes agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), who all think Jane’s a loose cannon but admire his charm and knack for clearing cases.

The Mentalist, Season 4 picks up a couple of days after the dramatic season 3 finale, which saw our hero arrested for the murder of the man he believed to be serial killer (and murderer of his wife and child), Red John. With Jane defending himself, and managing to convince the jury he should be let free, despite admitting to the killing, he’s reinstated as a CBI consultant. Albeit to a new team, as Lisbon’s team is still on suspension… Although Jane is determined to do something about that…

If you’ve seen earlier seasons of The Mentalist, season 4 brings you more of the dramatic, funny, and all round entertainment you’ve come to love. Although the show is technically a procedural cop drama, it has none of predictability which that ‘tag’ can sometimes imply. The great chemistry between the cast allows the characters to bounce of each other in dramatic (or comedic) ways as needed. The season retains the same great level of witty, intelligent, entertaining drama as the previous 3, and i suspect will continue on into season 5 (Click here to check the UK air date for The Mentalist, Season 5).

The DVD release includes the special feature ‘California Bureau of Investigation (CBI): Behind the Badge’ – The strength of The Mentalist is reflected in the pains taken by the producers, cast and crew to create the “appearance of reality” when it comes to the police procedures involving the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Find out how the actors and writers engage law enforcement consultants to teach them how to make each episode as engaging and realistic as possible.

9/10 – Another brilliant season of witty, intelligent, entertaining drama.
