Orphan Black Season 3 Launches tonight on BBC iPlayer at 10pm

by Dave Elliott

In an interesting move for the Beeb, BBC America’s Orphan Black will be launching tonight (23rd Sept) at 10pm directly onto the iPlayer. And that’s not just 1 episode, it’s the entire 10 episode run!

We were first aware something a little odd was going on when the show popped up on the schedules on BBC Three – 27th Sept… at 2.10am… Which is an odd way to treat a popular show… However, as has rather been proven by the decision to take BBC Three totally online next year, the channel’s target market tend towards watching online rather than live anyway, so the time they actually air it on the channel is somewhat irrelevant.

If you’ve not seen Orphan Black, it’s a tour de force performance from the super talented Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning and 10 (i think… i lose count!) other wildly different ‘clones’, all born via in vitro fertilisation by a shadowy organisation looking to study and experiment on them… It’s a phenomenal performance (or rather, performances!), and somewhat criminal she has yet to win an Emmy or Globe for it. Maslany was at least nominated this year for the Emmy, but was up against Viola Davis for her outstanding work as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder, and that’s a tough battle for anyone to win!
