Today’s man of the moment is without a doubt Idris Elba. Best known for playing the main character in BBC’s Luther (the latest of which you can watch right now on BBC iPlayer), he has also played roles on the big screen with a stellar performance in Mandela, playing the lead as Nelson Mandela. Whether on TV, in films, on billboards or in bus stops, wherever you turn Idris is there with his stylish swagger that is highly captivating. No one does suave better than Idris and if all that wasn’t enough, he has now gotten his hooks into the fashion world with a new clothing line.

Idris is always a hit on the big screen, with roles in blockbuster films including Thor, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Prometheus. This year alone, Idris can be seen in Avengers, Beasts of no Nation and The Gunman and he has also signed up to start in the new Star Trek film. It’s his natural suaveness in front of the camera that makes him such a hot commodity. Not to mention those James Bond rumours and it seems everything that Elba stars in is a success – forget The Man with the Golden Gun, Idris is the man with the Midas touch.

As well as the big screen, Idris has also enjoyed lots of success on the small screen, playing roles in many popular series including The Wire and The American Office. However, it is for his role as everyone’s favourite bad-ass detective John Luther that Elba is best known for in the BBC One series. Along with those Bond rumours, there is also talk of a fourth season of Luther with Elba set to reprise his role as the title character after bagging a whole host of awards for his portrayal of the smooth protagonist.

If all that on-screen presence wasn’t enough Idris for us, he has recently released a new clothing line for Superdry, which is designed, modelled and advertised by none other than Idris himself. Last Thursday, he spent the day in the Regent Street store promoting the range before taking over the company’s buzzing social media feeds to interact with his loyal fans that seem to be growing by the millions. Everything from stylish hoodies to edgy leather jackets feature in the clothing range that looks set to be just as popular as everyone has come to expect from the Luther star.
Idris as a DJ
Just in case you haven’t satisfied your Idris craving in the cinema, on the TV or in your fashion magazine, he can also be spotted spinning some tracks as a successful DJ. Idris has played at Glastonbury, where he received a rapturous welcome to the decks at the festival’s famous Dance Village. Known as Silver Hayes, Idris turned tracks alongside veteran DJs like Grandmaster Flash and Four Tet, and has also headlined in Ibiza’s famous Ibiza Rocks and appeared on a grime track with Skepta.
Idris’s career is going from strength to strength and 2016 looks set to be no different, as films, TV roles and more music events are already lined up to accompany his successful Superdry clothing range. And dare we mention, there’s also the possibility of Idris lending his natural suaveness to the role of 007…
