The stand along Han Solo movie, which is to be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, has found it’s new Han Solo, and it’s Alden Ehrenreich!
Ehrenreich was one of a number of names touted around for the film, but it seems that the ‘Hail Caesar!’ actor is the one they want to see shoot first. The movie will be the 2nd of the ‘Star Wars Stories’, after this year’s ‘Rogue One’, and will land in 2018. It’s yet to have an official title, so is currently still being referred to as ‘The Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Movie’ or ‘project Red Cup’, but i’m sure that will be resolved at some point!
There aren’t any specifics about the film at the moment, other than it will show the early life of our favourite intergalactic smuggler and will also feature his ‘walking carpet’ sidekick Chewbacca. It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw the winning of a certain Corellian YT-1300 light freighter at some point in the movie, which would also mean a young Lando Calrissian, and an epic, high stakes game of Sabacc.
As you can see in the photo, I think it’s fair to say Ehrenreich looks the part. It just remains to be seen if the 26yr old can pull of that Solo swagger, but I’m pretty confident he’s got the goods.
The new film is being written by veteran Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan, along with his son Jon Kasdan. Kasdan (senior) will also exec produce with Jason McGatlin and Lucasfilm head honcho Kathleen Kennedy producing.
