Endemol Shine Studios today announced they had acquired the rights to develop a ‘female-centered’ action series based on the Mirror’s Edge video games.
For those of you unfamiliar with the series, Mirror’s Edge is set in a seemingly futuristic utopian city, where crime has been all but been irradiated. This peace and safety comes at the cost of freedom, with the area being run by a totalitarian regime who control the media, and monitor all communications. Because of this, a network of ‘runners’ was established by those wishing to pass messages without the oppressive government finding out.
In the game, you play Faith, a young runner who uses ‘parkour’ to leap and run across building and down ventilation shafts to avoid prying eyes, but get’s mixed up in a conspiracy which could bring down society as they know it.
The 2nd game in the series, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which is a reboot of the franchise, is due out on the 9 June 2016, so now would seem like a good time to tie in a tv show. Sharon Hall, President of Endemol Shine Studios said “We clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience. It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”
