If you have access to Amazon Prime, and have been watching Dominic Cooper in Preacher, you’ll probably be very happy to hear the show will return for a 2nd season next year. AMC has picked up the freshman drama for 13 more episodes, due to air in 2017.
Based on the Vertigo comic book series, the show stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, a preacher in the little Texas town of Annville. After becoming possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity produced by the unholy coupling of an angel and a demon, he gains the ability to may people do his bidding.
Preacher is filled with wonderfully bizarre characters, such as the angels Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef), Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) the Irish vampire, Eugene Root, aka “Arseface” (Ian Colletti) – so named due to a failed suicide attempt left him horribly disfigured – and Tulip (Ruth Negga), is rather unhinged but extremely badass ex-girlfriend. It’s funny, weird, violent, and extremely dark humoured.
Produced as a co-production between Sony Pictures Television & AMC Studios, it’s currently the US’s 2nd highest rated cable show, so the 2nd season pick up is no great surprise. Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen developed the series, and Sam Catlin serves as showrunner.
Preacher airs on Amazon Prime in the UK.
