Corbin Bernsen cast as Vulcan in American Gods

American Gods is one of the most anticipated shows coming out of the US this season. Based on Neil Gaiman’s hugely popular novel of the same name, the show sees the rumblings of a war between old gods and new…

According to the book, gods exist due to people believing in them. Traditional mythological old gods have been usurped by newer gods of technology, money and celebrity. Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane – Deadwood, Pirates of the Caribbean) is one of those old god, who is on a cross-country mission to gather the old gang, in preparation of the inevitable war with the new, young upstarts.

Vulcan (Corbin Bernsen) is one of Wednesday’s oldest allies, but is reluctant to sign on to the fight, given he has created a nice, comfortable life for himself in this modern world.

Bernsen is probably best know for his role as Arnold Becker in L.A. Law, and detective Henry Spencer in Psych, and as Roger Dorn in the Major League movies.

Other cast for American Gods includes The 100’s Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard and traveling partner, Gillian Anderson (X-Files, The Fall) who is playing new god Media, Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow) who is Mr. Nancy, and Back To The Future’s Crispin Glover, who is playing Mr. World.

The show is being developed and written by Michael Green (Kings, Smallville) and Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal), who also has his hands full this season bringing Star Trek: Discovery to our screens.

American Gods is due to air in 2017 on Starz in the US. No news on a UK pick up yet, but you can be pretty sure there will be one.
