With October just around the corner, HBO’s latest mega-drama Westworld is not far off it’s premiere. Coming to Sky Atlantic and Now TV in the UK, the dark odyssey from JJ. Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars), Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight) and Lisa Joy (Pushing Daisies, Burn Notice), takes us to a futuristic theme park, where guests can live without limits… The show is described as “an examination of man’s primal nature, the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set in a futuristic theme park, guests can explore a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.”
Anthony Hopkins stars as the parks founder and creative director Dr Robert Ford, with Ed Harris (Pollack, Apollo 13) as The Man in Black, and Thandie Newton (Mission: Impossible II) as razor-sharp madam Maeve Millay, and sharp shooting new arrival to the frontier town Teddy Flood played by James Marsden (X-Men). Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Mildred Pierce) who features prominently in the new trailer above, plays Dolores Abernathy, a beautiful provincial rancher’s daughter, who begins to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.
The new series is based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 original movie, which starred Yul Brynner, however the tv version expands on the idea, taking it into much darker and more disturbing areas of the human psyche.
Westworld premieres October 2nd in the US on HBO. We don’t have an official UK air date yet except ‘October’, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Westworld get the Game Of Thrones treatment, and have the premiere simulcast with a regular airing the following day. Keep an eye on the Westworld uk air date page for the latest info.
