Zach Braff Returns To TV With ‘Start-Up’ Pilot

Here’s something that should make fans of Scrubs happy. Zach Braff is potentially returning to tv after taking the lead in a pilot from Scrub co-executive producer Matt Tarses.

The deal with US network ABC is for a ‘put pilot’, which means the network will air the pilot either as a special or series, or have to face hefty financial penalties. The show is based on Alex Blumberg’s Start-Up podcast, and sees Braff star as a man in his 30’s who decides, with his wife and kids, to throw in his well paying job and start his own business.

Tarses, who created the show Mad Love starring Jason Biggs (American Pie) & Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), and wrote a number of Scrubs episodes, is set to write the pilot.

Braff will direct the pilot, having become an accomplished director, going behind the camera for Garden State & Wish I Was Here. He also appeared on stage, writing and starring in All New People on both Broadway and the West End.

Tarses and Braff will serve as EPs, along with John Davis from Davis Entertainment, and Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber from Gimlet Media.

Given the team behind it, and the ‘put pilot’ commitment, unless something goes horribly wrong, it seems extremely likely this will make it to a full series.
