Matt LeBlanc Signs New Top Gear Deal

Seems like the BBC have decided on their new hosting line up for Top Gear. Matt LeBlanc has signed a 2 year deal to host 24 episodes of the motoring show over the next 2 years.

As you’ll remember, DJ Chris Evans took over the show last year, having taken a ‘throw it all at the wall and see what sticks’ approach to picking co-presenters. Ironically, the one that didn’t stick was Evans himself, who sensibly bowed out of the show after one season. Out of the other 5 presenters, it sounds like Chris Harris and Rory Reid will be joining LeBlanc as main presenters, with Eddie Jordan, Sabine Schmitz and of course, The Stig, making regular appearances.

“I am thrilled that Matt LeBlanc is returning to Top Gear,” commented Patrick Holland, Channel Editor for BBC Two. “He’s a huge talent whose love of cars is infectious. I can’t wait for the series to return to BBC Two next year.”

“Matt was hugely popular with Top Gear viewers last series with his humour, warmth and obvious passion for cars and for the show, so I couldn’t be more delighted that he’s agreed to come back and do more for us.” added Director of BBC Studios, Mark Linsey.

LeBlanc, Harris and Reid were the 3 stand out presenters from last seasons so it really makes sense to have them lead the show.  Harris & Reid will continue hosting Extra Gear along with the main show.

LeBlanc has a new sitcom starting on US network CBS in October called Man with a Plan, which sees him play a guy who is left at home to take care of the kids when his wife goes back to work. It’s going to be interesting to see how that fits around his Top Gear presenting, especially if the sitcom takes off.

Top Gear will return next year… But if you want to catch the ‘other’ motoring show starring 3 ex-Top Gear presenters, The Grand Tour airs on Amazon Prime from the 18 November 2016.
