Universal Channel UK Drops How To Get Away With Murder

In a somewhat surprise move, Universal Channel UK has decided not to pick up Season 3 of How To Get Away With Murder Geektown has learnt.

The drama, sees criminal defense attorney and law professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis), and her law students, embroiled in various murder plots, some rather closer to home than others!

How To Get Away With Murder is made by ABC in the US, and sold internationally by Disney Media Distribution. Universal Channel, which is part of NBCUniversal, haven’t given a specific reason for the decision. In some cases, when it’s a show which is bought in externally, it’s simply a that the cost of the show outweighs the return from the UK viewing figures. Or it could just be the case that Universal wish to allocate the monetary resources somewhere else. We reached out to Universal for comment, who replied “Universal Channel UK will not be airing Season 3 of How To Get Away with Murder. While we are focusing on other acquisitions in 2016/17, it was a tough decision and we wish the show much continued success.”

Season 3 started airing on in September across the pond, but that decision now leaves the show in limbo for the UK audience. Hopefully it won’t be too long before another buyer emerges. Netflix has done rather well picking up shows dropped by traditional broadcast networks over here, so that maybe a possibility, and they do currently have seasons 1 & 2. We’ll have to see if this speeds up the arrival of season 3. Seasons 1 & 2 have also been available to buy & stream on iTunes and Amazon, so it’s possibly this may speed up season 3’s arrival on those platforms too.

We’ll let you know when we hear some more solid info about a new broadcast channel.
