American Crime Story Renewed For 3rd Season On Gianni Versace Murder

Today sees another show get a renewal before it’s next season has even aired. Yesterday it was announced The Walking Dead would be getting an 8th season, when season 7 doesn’t start till next week. Now it’s being reported that American Crime Story will be getting a 3rd Season, even though season 2 has yet to air.

The true crime anthology series comes from Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee), with each season focusing on a different major event. Season 1 followed the OJ Simpson trial, and season 2 is set to examine the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina.

According to Deadline, the season 3 is set to look at the murder of Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace at his mansion in Miami in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. This will be based on the book ‘Vulgar Favors’, by journalist & author Maureen Orth, and is set to film in LA and Miami next spring.

American Crime Story has been a massive hit for it’s US network FX, with season 1 sweeping up 10 Emmy awards including Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Lead Actor & Actress and Outstanding Limited Series.

The 1st season of American Crime Story aired in the UK on the BBC, however Netflix struck a deal for the global streaming rights, meaning season 2 will land on the streaming service at some point in 2017.
