The Walking Dead Renewed For An 8th Season

To the surprise of almost no one, The Walking Dead has been renewed by AMC for an 8th season it was announced last night.

The zombie apocalypse show will return for another 16 episodes next year after AMC announced season 8 had already been commisioned during a 2hr special which aired on AMC US yesterday evening. Given it’s AMC’s top show, and all the press season 6’s cliffhanger generated, it’s no great shock they are keen to see it return.

As we left the gang in last seasons finale, things were not looking good for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his friends. They had just met Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan), leader of The Savoirs, and one ruthless s.o.b. The show ended with screams, and blood dripping down the screen, as Negan swung his beloved barbed wire covered baseball bat ‘Lucille’ at the head of an unnamed victim.

Although we still have to wait a week before we find out who took Lucille’s greeting, footage released last week suggests it was someone to Rick’s right-hand side. There’s also been various news reports suggesting that there will be more than one major death in the opening episode…

The Walking Dead returns to Fox UK on Monday, 24 October 2016 at 9pm. For those of you that don’t want to turn off the internet the entire day to avoid spoilers, Fox UK are going to simulcast the premiere with the US in the small hours of the morning.
