Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green Lands The Lead On Star Trek: Discovery

The Walking Dead’s Sasha, Sonequa Martin-Green, is going to be fighting aliens as well as zombies from next year, as she lands the lead role as the “lieutenant commander with caveats” in Star Trek: Discovery.

As we’ve mentioned previously, this new Star Trek series will see the lead role focus be on a Lieutenant Commander, rather than the Captain of the USS Discovery. For those of you wondering what this means for Sasha on The Walking Dead, don’t panic… yet. They are saying she will still be a series regular on the zombie drama, as both shows will be shooting at different times. Bear in mind Corey Hawkins is still around as Heath (albeit currently M.I.A), despite playing the lead in Fox’s 24 reboot, 24: Legacy. Heath however, is a recurring character not a series regular, so whether we may see Sasha’s presence on the show reduced remains to be seen.

Sonequa Martin-Green is joined on Star Trek: Discovery by Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger), who is playing Captain Georgiou in command of the Starship Shenzhou, Doug Jones (Falling Skies, Hellboy, Buffy), who plays alien science officer Lt. Saru, and Anthony Rapp (Rent, Road Trip), who plays Lt. Stamets, also a Starfleet Science Officer.

The show has also recently cast a number of people as Klingons on the series including Chris Obi (American Gods, Roots) as T’Kuvma – a Klingon leader trying to unite the various Klingon houses, Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful, Toast of London) as T’Kuvma’s protege, and Mary Chieffo as L’Rell, a Klingon Battle Deck Commander.

Star Trek: Discovery lands on Netflix in May 2017, and The Walking Dead returns for Season 7b, 13th February 2017 at 9pm on Fox UK.
