Some of you will go ‘OMG! They’re making a CHiPS movie!?’. Those of you under 40 will probably be asking ‘What on earth is CHiPs?’ Well, for the younger generation, CHiPs was a tv series which ran from 1977 to 1983 about Poncherello and Baker, two motorcycle cops for the California Highway Patrol. The movie takes the basic same premise, to bring the buddy action/comedy to the big screen.
Dax Shepard (Parenthood, The Judge) has written, directed, and stars in the new version as Officer Jon Baker, with Ant-man’s Michael Peña taking on the role of Officer Frank ‘Ponch’ Poncherello. In this version Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Whilst Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating corruption inside the CHP led by former cop Vic Brown, played by the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil).
Additional cast includes Justin Chatwin, Jane Kaczmarek, Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, and Jessica McNamee.
Should also mention, the original music for the film has been composed by friend of Geektown, Empire & Revenge composer Fil Eisler!
CHIPS is released in the UK and US on the 24th of March 2017.
