Riverdale Renewed For A 2nd Season

And the Berlanti hits just keep on coming… After getting all his CW superhero shows renewed in January, now Greg Berlanti’s other comic book show has also had a pick up for another season, as Riverdale is renewed for season 2.

Based… or should I say, ‘very loosely based’, on the classic Archie comics, Riverdale follows Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) as they return to school following a Summer which saw Cheryl’s brother Jason apparently murdered. Whilst there’s no vampires, werewolves, or other things that go bump in the night to that tv teens usually have to deal with, there is murder, sex, and betrayal, plus the great mystery of Jason’s death, and who actually killed him…

Riverdale is actually the first, and possibly only, of the freshman shows that CW has renewed, with a pick up for No Tomorrow and Frequency seeming increasingly less likely. Whilst Archie and the gang haven’t performed brilliantly in live ratings, they have excelled in delayed and digital viewing, which is what you would expect for a show targeted at a younger demographic.

If you haven’t yet caught Riverdale, it’s airing weekly in the UK on Netflix, with new episodes added every Friday.
