Billions Renewed For A 3rd Season

We may only be half way through Billions Season 2 at the moment, but US network Showtime are so happy with the numbers, they have already commissioned a 3rd season it was announced last night.

“Billions continues to be a show on the rise, growing not only in audience, but in critical buzz and cultural relevance,” commented President of Showtime, David Nevins. “It offers a unique mix of pure entertainment with sly commentary on our current have/have-not economy. Season 2 is off to a tremendous start, and has only whetted our audience’s appetite for what will come in Season 3.”

Billions follows Damian Lewis as shady hedge fund manager Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod, and Paul Giamatti as District U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, who’s not afraid to pull his own underhand tricks to capture Axe in some nefarious deal. Where Season 1 saw Axe Capital nearly destroyed by Rhoades’ attacks, Season 2 sees Axe going on the attack, using his considerable resources to exact revenge on the machiavellian U.S. Attorney.

Additional cast includes Sons of Anarchy alumnus Maggie Siff as Chuck’s estranged wife Wendy Rhoades, Malin Åkerman (Watchmen, The Comeback) as Axe’s wife Lara, and David Costabile (Suits, Breaking Bad) as Axe’s right-hand man Mike “Wags” Wagner.

If you’ve not yet caught Billions, you can find Season 1 and Season 2 on Sky On Demand and NOW TV, with new episodes coming Tuesday nights at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
