CBS Just Renewed 16 Shows Including Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, Bull & MacGyver
US network CBS has just made a lot of Hollywood producers very happy by handing out early renewals to 16 shows!
The full list includes NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, Scorpion, Madam Secretary, Bull, MacGyver, Life In Pieces, Mom, Kevin Can Wait, Man With a Plan, Survivor, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours and Superior Donuts! The Big Bang Theory and NCIS have already been renewed by the network.
Notably missing from the list are Elementary, Code Black, Criminal Minds & Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, 2 Broke Girls and The Great Indoors.
Also missing are The Odd Couple, Doubt and Training Day, although these last 3 are not expected to be picked up for new seasons. Doubt was pulled from the schedules, Training Day sadly lost its lead actor Bill Paxton, and The Odd Couple didn’t get a backorder this season.
We should say, just because the shows are missing from the early renewal list, that does not mean they won’t be picked up. Criminal Minds is currently in negotiations with ABC Studios, who make the series, so that is expected to be renewed. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders has only just started airing in the US, so it’s a little too early to tell if that will come back.
Shows with more of a problem include 2 Broke Girls, which has been doing okay in the ratings, but not stellar, so is very much a toss up for renewal. Code Black is struggling, and struggled last year, so it’s hard to say if CBS would be willing to stick their neck out again for it. Then there is Elementary… It’s slipped in the ratings, but is owned by CBS, and sells well internationally, so that could possibly save it from cancellation.
