Lucifer Bumps 4 Episodes Of Season 3 To Season 4
The producers of hit US show Lucifer, which airs on Amazon Prime in the UK, have confirmed that Season 2 will be 18 episodes long, despite being picked up for a full 22 episode season. They have decided to bump the final 4 episodes over to supersize Season 3, meaning it could be a whopping 26 episodes!
“We designed this season to be an 18 episode arc because we originally were going to be 18 episodes,” commented showrunner Joe Henderson on Twitter. “But then we got 4 more! Surprise! So we decided to create four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with format a bit, etc… We didn’t know whether they’d air this season or next until now. Now we do. So bad news is you need to wait for them. And I know that sucks. But the good news is we’ll have at LEAST 22 episodes of Lucifer next season. Maybe 26?? Probably 24? Hard to say this early!”
He went on to add “We’re doing four episodes that stand on their own, but also pick up plots we’ve introduced and bring in new stuff we’ll play with season 3. We know where they’ll slot season 3, and how they’ll affect story/etc… They won’t feel very standalone because they are so character focused. End of season 2 is still exactly what we planned. And it is CRAZY awesome, if you don’t mind me saying so!”
When asked if this was their decision or Fox’s, he commented “Honestly, they love the show, they just didn’t have anywhere to air the extra episodes until the fall.”
So it would appear to be a mixture of production time, scheduling issues, and the guys behind the show not wanting to compromise the story they currently have, by ramming in unnecessary filler episodes. That, in my opinion, is a good thing!
Lucifer is currently on mid-season break in the US, but will return to Amazon Prime on the 2nd May 2017 for episode 14.
