Poldark Returning in For Season 3 In June & Renewed For Season 4
Good news for fans of Aidan Turner and wind-swept Cornish coastline. You won’t have to wait as long for season 3 of Poldark as we initially thought! They have also confirmed that Season 4 has been commisioned.
Whilst the BBC haven’t given an exact air date yet, they have confirmed that Season 3 will air in June, rather than September this year. “The earlier filming schedule on this series means that we can bring the much anticipated third series back sooner for fans to Sunday nights in June,” commented a BBC spokeswoman. They are denying the move is to stop it clashing with ITV’s hit Victoria, as it did with season 2, but you have to think that probably does factor into the equation.
Set in 1794, Poldark Season 3 sees Ross traverse a new family, new loves and new battles, all as the French revolution casts a great shadow over life in Cornwall. We also get a number of new characters this series – Ellise Chappell (The Last Dragonslayer) plays Elizabeth’s cousin Morwenna, and Tom York (Olympus) & Harry Richardson (Doctor Thorne) join as Demelza’s brothers, Sam & Drake. “It’s with real excitement that we introduce three very talented young actors to the world of Poldark,” commented exec producer Karen Thrussell. “Harry Richardson and Tom York playing Demelza’s brothers Drake and Sam, and Ellise Chappell as Morwenna, Elizabeth’s cousin. All are major players in the next volume of Winston Graham and Debbie Horsfield’s saga!”
Season 3 also sees the return of Heida Reed as Elizabeth, Jack Farthing as George Warleggan, Ruby Bentall as Verity, Gabriella Wilde as Caroline Penvenen and Luke Norris as Dr Dwight Enys, John Nettles as Ray Penvenen, Beatie Edney as Prudie and Caroline Blakiston as Aunt Agatha.
On top of all that, over the weekend, the official Poldark twitter account confirmed that Poldark Season 4 has already been commisioned, and writer Debbie Horsfield has completed 4 scripts, with a 5th underway!
Poldark Season 3 will air on BBC 1 in June, with Season 4 arriving in 2018.
