Red Returns As ‘The Blacklist’ Is Renewed For A Season 5

The Blacklist will return for a 22 episode 5th season US network NBC have announced.

The show, which stars James Spader as master criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington, and Megan Boone as FBI Special Agent Elizabeth Keen, has taken a couple of knocks in the ratings, but is still the network’s 3rd highest rated scripted series, behind the already renewed This Is Us and Chicago Fire.

For those of you that haven’t caught up with the show, Reddington is a former United States Navy officer turned high-profile criminal, who voluntarily surrenders to the FBI after evading capture for decades. In exchange for immunity from prosecution, each week he points the Bureau towards a criminal who is on ‘The Blacklist’ – A collection of the elusive bad guys who need to be taken off the board. Although, more often than not, Red’s motives are not entirely altruistic…

There’s not yet any news on spin-off series The Blacklist: Redemption, but all signs point to it not returning for a 2nd season. UPDATE: The Blacklist: Redemption has been cancelled, but Ryan Eggold rejoining the main Blacklist cast as a series regular.

The Blacklist returns for Season 4c to Sky 1 on the 24th May at 9pm.
