New Girl Renewed For A 7th & Final Season

New Girl will return for a 7th, but final season US network Fox have announced today.

Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Cece (Hannah Simone) will all return for a shortened final run, to allow their longest running live-action comedy series to get the send off it deserves. The exact length of the season hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s believed to be between 8 and 13 episodes.

First airing in September 2011, New Girl became a breakout hit for Fox, although the ratings have been steadily sliding with each season since then. Despite that, it was still the network’s highest-rated returning half hour comedy.

It had been unclear if a 7th season would come, so the shows producers tried to tie things up in the season 6 finale, so it could serve as the show’s final episode if need be, but still allow them to have somewhere to go if they got the pick up. The series coming to an end hasn’t really come as a huge surprise, as even Liz Meriwether, the show’s creator, had been talking about moving on to other projects. However, it is nice to see Fox giving them the chance to say a proper goodbye.

New Girl airs on E4 in the UK.
