‘American Crime Story’ Moves Up ‘Versace’ To Season 2, ‘Katrina’ To Season 3

American Crime Story have switched around the upcoming seasons of US network FX announced today.

Originally the plan was to air ‘Katrina’, which follows the story of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans, as season 2, followed by ‘Versace’, which tells the story of the famous fashion designer’s murder, as season 3. Now FX are saying ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’ will air as season 2 in early 2018, with ‘Katrina’ following as season 3 later in the same year.

The main reason for the switch is due to creative and production issues with ‘Katrina’. We’ve known for a while there have been complications with the shoot, partly caused by the fact they can only get insurance to film in New Orleans at certain times of the year, ironically, due to hurricanes. They are also citing issues with the scripts not being up to scratch yet. Unlike ‘The People Vs. OJ’, they don’t have one major source book to base the series on, so the story is taking much longer to piece together. This has now led them to push shooting into 2018.

‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’ started production in April with filming in LA and Miami, but up until now, the plan was still to air it as the 3rd season. Due to them having to push ‘Katrina’ again, that has moved it up to season 2.

‘Versace’ tells the story of fashion designer Gianni Versace’s murder in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Édgar Ramirez (Point Break, The Bourne Ultimatum) will play Versace, with Darren Criss (Glee, The Flash) playing Cunanan. Other cast includes Penélope Cruz (Vanilla Sky, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Gianni’s sister Donatella Versace, Max Greenfield (New Girl, American Horror Story) as his brother Santo Versace and Ricky Martin as his partner, Antonio D’Amico.

‘American Crime Story: Versace’ is now pencilled in for early 2018 release, with ‘American Crime Story: Katrina’ following later in 2018. ‘American Crime Story’ airs on BBC2 in the UK.
