Selma Blair has landed a recurring role in the TV reboot of cult classic 80’s movie ‘Heathers‘ it has been announced.
For those of you too young to remember the original film, it starred Winona Ryder as Veronica Sawyer one of the most popular girls in her High School. Despite them being mean, bitchy, feared by the schools general populous, the main popular clique consists of 3 girls, all named ‘Heather’. Veronica has had enough of their behaviour, and longs to return to her simpler, bookish, life. After an incident at a party where one of the Heather’s embarrasses Veronica, new school bad boy Jason “J.D.” Dean (Christian Slater), starts to bump off the Heathers.
This new version of ‘Heathers’ stars Under the Dome’s Grace Victoria Cox as Veronica Sawyer and is described as a “pitch-black comedy anthology” series, which sees her dealing with “a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.”
“Our take on Heathers is a cinematic, surprising and twisted comedy that gives a wonderful nod to the film while also creating something entirely its own,” commented Cox. “We’re really passionate about this show and the satirical story-telling its provocative characters allow.”
In the tv version, James Scully takes the role of JD, Melanie Field plays Heather Chandler, Brendan Scannell plays Heather Duke, and Jasmine Mathews takes the role of Heather McNamara. Shannen Doherty, who played Heather Duke in the original movie is also set to join as a guest star in a pivotal, but as-yet-unnamed, role.
Selma Blair will be playing Jade, stepmother to Heather Duke, and is described as a menthol smoking stripper, who is rough around the edges, but with a bit of glamour to her, and is biding her time until her 82-year-old husband kicks the bucket.
‘Heathers‘ doesn’t arrive in the US until 2018, where it will air on the Paramount Network, so there’s no UK Air Date yet. We’ll update you when we know more.
