‘Arrow’ Season 6 – Who Live, Who Dies & What We Know So Far

Arrow Season 5 had a pretty spectacular and very explodey finale! In the closing moments, we saw Ollie helplessly watch in horror as Prometheus’ final act of blowing up Lian Yu potentially kills all of his friends who are still on the island. Bits of news regarding Arrow Season 6 have started to drip through, so here is what we know so far (obviously SPOILERS!)

Who Is Alive? Who Is Dead?

As you’d expect, a number of Team Arrow have been confirmed as making it off the island. We know Diggle survives, as actor David Ramsey posted to his Instagram account that he was back filming. We also know Deathstroke (Manu Bennett) lives, as Stephen Amell confirmed at a recent Heroes and Villains Fan Fest that the character would be in multiple episodes of the new season.

Showrunner Marc Guggenheim appeared to confirm Thea (Willa Holland) will be back, as he was quoted as saying “as long as I’m involved with the show, I never want to kill off Thea.” Love her or hate her, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) appears to be confirmed, as she let slip at HVFF that ‘Smoak Technologies’ would be part of the new season… and that’s kinda hard to do without Felicity Smoak!

Echo Kellum also appears to confirm Mister Terrific is alive after posting the following photo to Twitter. That also confirms the news that Katie Cassidy is back, continuing as Earth-2’s Black Siren:

Finally, The CW have confirmed Rick Gonzalez (Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog) and Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/Black Canary) are returning as season regulars, so we know they both survive. That only really leaves the fate of Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) in the balance from the Team Arrow side.

One person we believe may have bitten the bullet is Malcolm Merlyn, as John Barrowman confirmed he wouldn’t be returning… The al Ghul sisters, Nyssa (Katrina Law) and Talia (Lexa Doig) were both still on the island when the bombs went off, so it remains to be seen if they will return. However, Katrina Law has just landed the female lead in new drama ‘The Oath’ opposite Sean Bean, so that may prevent her from coming back.

What About The Flashbacks?

Although the ‘island’ flashbacks are gone, the flashback tool is still going to be utilised in the upcoming season. Guggenheim commented “I think, going forward flashbacks are still a part of the show and we’ve seen in plenty of episodes we’ve done non-island, non-Russia flashbacks with Felicity…and we’re doing that again on 5.13, we’re going to flashback to Renee’s period before he was Wild Dog. That’s a tool in our toolbox. I don’t think we have an expectation to do a flashback every single episode of season 6, but again, it’s part and parcel of the show and we’ll just continue going on the way we are.”

Stephen Amell also confirmed the 1st episode of Season 6, titled ‘Fallout’, will flashback to “the immediate aftermath of the events in the finale,” but also that there were “no flashbacks in the 2nd episode.”

What’s Coming Up In Arrow Season 6?

There’s not a whole lot of info out there yet on the new season, but a few little tidbits have emerged. According to Amell, Oliver will have a new apartment, and also we will see the return of a character who “we have not seen since season one…” Now that could be someone big, like the return of Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell). With Malcolm gone, they could be looking to bring in Tommy somehow as the Merlyn from the comic books. Maybe an ‘Earth 2’ version?

Or… It could be a minor character, such as Raisa (Kathleen Gati), the Queen family’s maid, who joins him to help out, now he’s presumably responsible for his son William after his mother dies on Lian Yu.

We don’t yet have a ‘big bad’, although rumours have been flying that anyone from Lady Shiva, Talia Al Ghul, or the Kevin Smith created villain Onomatopoeia could be on the list. We will have to wait and see!

Arrow‘ returns to Sky 1 for Season 6 in Autumn 2017.
