Jamestown Proves A Massive Hit For Sky One

Sky appears to have a hit on their hands, as the viewing figures for Season 1 of their new drama Jamestown are released.

The series concluded recently with an average audience of 1.3 million viewers across its 8 episode 1st season, making it one of the highest performing original dramas on Sky 1 to date, and outperformed both BBC Two and Channel 5 within pay homes for the timeslot. The show also was downloaded more than 3.2 million times through Sky’s various On Demand platforms (inc. NOW TV & Sky Go.)

“We’re so pleased with the positive reaction that we’ve received from our customers about Jamestown and that such large numbers have watched the series both live and on demand,” commented Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1 and Sky Living. “We’re now shooting series two and can’t wait to see what happens next to our favourite characters in the New World.”

Created by multi-award-winning production company Carnival Films (‘The Hollow Crown’, ‘Hotel Babylon’, ‘The Last Kingdom’, ‘Whitechapel’), ‘Jamestown’ tells the story of the first women to arrive at the new colony. Twisting storylines follow the disruptive new arrivals as they make an immediate impact and are thrust into a world of love, desire, power and survival.

“Everyone involved in the making of Jamestown is thrilled that it has performed so well on Sky 1 and clearly resonated with audiences,” adds Gareth Neame, Executive Producer, Carnival Films. “Bill Gallagher has brilliantly re-created the brooding atmosphere of Jamestown, a viper’s nest of intrigue and politics inhabited by an intriguing cast of characters. As a British take on the beginning of the new world, this is truly original drama and we are already hard at work on new episodes.”

Jamestown will return to Sky 1 and NOW TV in 2018 with a brand new 8 part 2nd series. Written by Bill Gallagher, season 2 will see the ensemble cast led by Naomi Battrick as Jocelyn, Sophie Rundle as Alice, Niamh Walsh as Verity, Max Beesley as Henry and Jason Flemying as Yeardley return for more adventures in 17th century America.
