Hulu Finds It’s Locke for ‘Locke & Key’ Comic Book Adaptation

Hulu has cast Frances O’Connor as the lead in its upcoming pilot of ‘Locke & Key’, an adaptation of the IDW comic book from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.

The horror/fantasy series revolves around 3 siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them…

Hill is set to write the pilot script with ‘Doctor Strange’ director, Scott Derrickson, taking point behind the camera. Carlton Cuse (‘The Strain’, ‘Bates Motel’, ‘Colony’, ‘Lost’) will serve as showrunner, and will exec produce alongside Hill.

Frances O’Connor has starred in ‘Mr. Selfridge’, ‘Cleverman’, ‘The Missing’, ‘Cashmere Mafia’ and a host of other tv shows and movies. She will play the role of Nina Locke in the adaptation, mother of the 3 siblings.

“We are thrilled to have the multi-dimensional talents of Frances O’Connor to breathe colour and life into this pivotal character in our series,” commented David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment. “And along with a stellar production team in place, we have no doubt that we will be able to bring Joe Hill’s creative vision to the small screen”.

This is not the first time ‘Locke & Key’ has been tried as a tv series. The first attempt landed at Fox in 2011, and was piloted with Miranda Otto taking the part of Nina, but the network opted not to pick it up.

‘Locke & Key’ is still only at the pilot stage at the moment, so no UK air date (or US air date) yet, but we will let you know if it gets picked up to series.

UPDATE: Locke & Key has not been picked up to series.
