DC has found the 2nd of their ‘Titans‘, as ’24: Legacy’ star, Anna Diop, takes the role of Starfire it has been announced.
Written and produced by Akiva Goldsman (‘Star Trek: Discovery’, ‘The Dark Tower’, ‘Fringe’), DC God Geoff Johns (‘The Flash’, ‘Arrow’) and the Arrowverse’s Greg Berlanti, the tv series will centre around Dick Grayson as he emerges from Batman’s shadow as Nightwing, and pulls together a team of new superheroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others. It is, of course, based on the hugely popular ‘Teen Titans’ & ‘Titans’ comic book series, which started in the late 60’s, and has gone through a number of team members since its inception.
Diop is set to play Starfire, aka Koriand’r, a princess of the fictional planet Tamaran in the Vegan system. As a Tamaranean, her physiology absorbs ultraviolet radiation which is converted into pure energy, allowing her to fly at supersonic speeds and gives her superhuman strength & durability.
She will join ‘Home and Away’ actress Teagan Croft who landed the role of Raven, a powerful empath and also the daughter of a demon… She must keep her emotions in check or risk unleashing her demonic half on the world.
‘Titans‘ is set to air on DC’s new digital streaming service, along side a revamped version of the animated series ‘Young Justice’, titled ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’. It’s still not entirely clear if this service is going to be US only, or if it will be available worldwide, so we’re waiting on more information. It’s also not clear of ‘Titans’ will be connected to the rest of Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse (although it really should be!)
We’ll bring you more updates on ‘Titans‘ as we get them.
